Paidir de chuid na Sioux

A Sioux Prayer

Translated by Chief Yellow Lark - 1887

Oh, Great Spirit, whose voice I hear in the winds
Whose breath gives life to the world, hear me
I come to you as one of your many children
I am small and weak
I need your strength and wisdom

May I walk in beauty
Make my eyes ever behold the red and purple sunset.
Make my hands respect the things you have made
And my ears sharp to your voice.
Make me wise so that I may know the things you have taught your children

The lessons you have written in every leaf and rock

Make me strong--------!

Not to be superior to my brothers, but to fight my greatest enemy....myself

Make me ever ready to come to you with straight eyes,
So that when life fades as the fading sunset,
May my spirit come to you without shame.

Paidir de chuid na Sioux

An Taoiseach Fuiseog Bhuí a d'aistrigh - 1887

Ó, a Mhórspioraid, a gcloisim do ghuth ar an ngaoth
A dtugann d'anáil beatha don domhan, éist liom
Tagaim chugat mar bhall ded chlann líonmhar
Nach mé atá beag agus lag
Tá do neart uaim is do ghaois.

Go siúla mé faoin áilleacht
Go bhféacha mo shúile de shíor ar luí na gréine, dearg, corcra,
Go raibh meas ag mo lámha ar gach a ndearna tú
Go raibh mo chluasa ar bior ag éisteacht led ghuth.
Bronn orm an ghaois chun go dtuigfidh mé do chuid ráiteas

Na ceachtanna atá scríofa agat ar gach duilleog is carraig

Neartaigh mé - !

Ní chun mo dheartháireacha a shárú ach an namhaid is mó atá agam a chloí ... mé féin.

Go raibh mé ullamh i gcónaí chun teacht os do chomhair le súile macánta
I dtreo is go ngluaisfeadh mo spioradsa chugat gan náire
Is an bheatha ag éag mar luí na gréine ag dul ó léas.
